Physical Education A-Level at The Swan

A-level Physical Education (PE) is a fun, enriching and academic course which can lead to a variety of career paths, including:

University-A-Level PE can prepare you for a degree in sports science, sports management, healthcare, teaching, or exercise and health. 

Sports– You could pursue a career in sports development, sports coaching, physiotherapy, or sports journalism. 

Other careers-The transferable skills you learn in A-Level PE, such as decision making and independent thinking, can be useful in many non-sport related workplaces. 

Other subjects- A-Level PE can complement further study in biology, human biology, physics, psychology, nutrition, and sociology.

The PE department works closely with other departments in the school to ensure that the teaching of common content complement each other. 

6 in GCSE PE or 6 in Biology GCSE or 6-6 in combined science GCSE’s. 

30% of the course is practical, students must be competing in a sport (from the specification) to a reasonable standard.

AQA A-Level Physical Education (7582)

  1. Anatomy & Physiology

  7. Sport & society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport

Students will take 2 written (2 hour) exams at the end of the course: 

35%=Paper 1: Content from modules 1, 2 and 3

35%=Paper 2: Content from modules 4, 5, 6 and 7

Combined with a practical assessment:

30%=Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in physical activity and sport.

Students are assessed as a performer or coach in the full sided version of one activity. Plus a written/verbal analysis of performance.
