World Book Day – You’re never too old for fancy dress!

Swan School staff and students celebrated World Book Day on Thursday the 5th March by dressing up as their favourite book characters and taking part in different book-related activities throughout the day.  The purpose of World Book Day is to celebrate reading and it was lovely to hear our students talk so passionately about the books they love.  Staff showed commitment to the cause too, with Mr Maulkerson, dressed as Frodo from Lord of the Rings, managing to walk around barefoot all day – even in the playground!

We awarded prizes to the two best costumes but it was extremely hard to choose given the quality.  We were particularly impressed by students who demonstrated sustainability by making parts of their outfits from things they had at home.  The eventual winners, pictured below, were Bella Skaer and Morrigan Ogg (Jo, Little Women).

The event was organised by the school council so it was great to see so many people getting involved.  Anyone who wanted to dress up brought in £1 as a contribution towards the council’s charity of choice – Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue.  We look forward to making a generous donation.
