Last night we held an information event for prospective Swan parents and students at New Marston Primary School. It was wonderful to see so many families there keen to know more about our plans for the school. The last time I spoke to most of the people in the room was back in October at our open evening. At that point I had still yet to officially take up my post so it was great to be able to share some of the concrete things that I have actually done over the last month rather than just making promises for the future!
In the Q&A part of the evening, parents were particularly keen to know more about what happens next in the admissions process. This is understandable as the parallel application for our first year can be confusing – thankfully from next year onward The Swan will be part of the centrally administered system so the whole thing will be more straightforward! We have put together a flow diagram to help simplify your next steps from the 1st of March when you will find out if your child has been offered a place at The Swan and which other school they have also been offered.
If you do wish to join our founding cohort in September, there are essentially two pathways:
- If you have been offered a place at The Swan – please accept our offer of a place and your place at the other school by 21st March. Once our funding agreement has been signed, we will then write again asking you to re-confirm your Swan place.
- If you have not been offered a place at The Swan in the first round – firstly, don’t worry! We expect that some of those in the first 120 will not accept their offer and so these places will become available at a later date. Please put your child’s name on our Continued Interest List and you will be offered a place if one becomes available on 8th May.
More details about the admissions process, including appeals will be on our website:theswanschool.org.uk/apply/
