At The Swan, we are committed to the importance of modern foreign languages. We believe that they are a vital way for us to learn to communicate with others, as well as developing an understanding and appreciation for other cultures. All of our students study French, which they will continue to learn up until GCSE, and other languages – German, Mandarin, and Latin – are also available as part of our elective programme.
On the 26th September European Day of Languages is celebrated across Europe. Last week, all of our students competed in an inter-house languages competition. Tutor groups were asked to work together to decipher sentences in an unknown language. They had to use their team-work as well as their decoding/translation skills. The results for the inter-house competition are below:
- 3rd Place – Bannister and Berners-Lee
- 2nd Place – Yousafzai
- 1st Place – Hawking
